HAWAIIAN FOOD, COLD GINGER CHICKEN
This is one of those Hawaiian recipes that I remember having often found at family luaus. It is Cold Ginger Chicken and this is a very easy chicken recipe.
This is one of those favorite Hawaiian foods which never lasted long once it is set out in the buffet line.
Since I was testing out different Hawaiian recipes and just happen to have a group of guinea pigs I call friends and since I haven’t eaten this Hawaiian food for a while, this was the perfect time for this chicken recipe.
For all of you who enjoy the taste of fresh ginger this chicken is going to be a huge treat, one that will definitely win a spot on your list of favorite chicken recipes.
Add a few cloves of freshly minced garlic to the ginger, add a bit of Hawaiian salt, a handful of chopped green onions, vegetable oil and just for extra flavor add a bit of sesame seed oil. That’s it for the fresh ginger sauce, let the flavors bloom for a few minutes, the flavors will blend together into a beautiful thing.
Now for the really hard part of this chicken recipe, boil the chicken, but in just water. This requires at least a few taste buds, so those of you without taste buds, like the warning seen so often, don’t try this at home! Because the water will need to be seasoned to perfection! Add some coarse salt, ginger, garlic, green onions and then taste it. The ginger flavor should stand out so taste it. Like it, good! If not add a bit more.
The recipe actually calls for a whole chicken, but, well, I tried it with chicken thighs and I am happy to report that it came out fine. Boil it for about ½ hour to 45 minutes until it was tender, chop stick tender, once a chop stick can pierce the chicken thighs it is done.
I am happy to report that this chicken recipe was a big success. When it was announced that the Hawaiian recipe on the menu was cold ginger chicken the reception wasn’t exactly excitement, since no one had it before. But all it took was one taste and they were all won over after that.
